People with disabilities represent 386 million of the world’s working population. While some employers may be unwilling to hire workers with disabilities, research indicates that workers with disabilities make productive employees and perform on par or better than non-disabled workers with regard to attendance, work safety and job retention. Contrary to popular belief, most workers with disabilities often do not require expensive adaptations to their workspace or equipment and tools. The focus of this module is to look at the challenges and barriers that exist within the workplace for people with disabilities and to consider why and how factories can adapt the workspace and work environment to be more inclusive. • Click here to view the Disability in the workplace sub-module.
